Dancing is really a form of exercise where you need to move nearly every part of your body to a rhythm and so its preferable that you wear the right dance costume. So its stands to reason that almost every one who dances professionally will need to select age appropriate dance costumes to suit their body type and the dance they will be doing. So here are a few tips on selecting the appropriate dance costumes for your needs.
- There’s a common adage, “the fancier the costume, the worse the dancer” and it does prove true! Most experienced dancers have acknowledged the fact that dance costumes should add grace to the dancer’s movements and allow ease of movement. It should also allow dancers to show off every nuance of style, pose and gesture to the audience. Select a dance costume which adds to the grace of the dance and does not detract or distract from it.
- Wear costumes that fit and get costumes which follow the style of the dance you have selected. It’s always a good idea to make sure that your dance costume is just right; not too tight or short. Too tight will result in you spilling yourself out of your clothes during a difficult move.
- Lycra and spandex are always the best for any type of costume for dance and exercises. Always select the costume you have selected under a strong beam of light for safety. Fabric which appears completely safe at home may turn completely translucent under the strong spotlights. Have a trusted friend with you to give you an honest opinion of the costume. Your friend will be able to see you completely and you cannot!
- When you are going to get a new dance costume, make sure you practice several times in it before going on stage. Kind of like breaking in new shoes. Do the same dance with the same moves as well as the same motions to check out the stretch ability of the costume. Check to see how individual pieces of the costume move and whether they catch or stick while dancing. Also check to see that the costume does not constrict any important motions before you think of going on stage!
- While purchasing a dance costume from a ready made supplier ask for additional beads trimmings etch which match the costumes you have been given. This way if you need to stitch any ditionals you can do so easily with out any headache.
